Mon Chéri: Daily Photos + Short Stories

Tokyo is where we met.We were new comers there:He just came from France, and I also just came from Osaka after coming back from the UK.We started to experience the cultural and historical things of Japan in Tokyo. And then, we started to visit the places further away from Tokyo, including outside of Japan. Where we were born, how we were raised, and the paths we had chosen. We have a lot of similarities but also many differences. That makes me discover something new when I travel with him, even to the places I know well.So as not to miss my findings, it is now my little pleasure to keep them in…

Belgium: Life in Leuven

Leuven is only 30 minute away from Brussels by both car and train. We stayed there about three weeks in this summer. It is a famous “univercity” in Belgium, but we were lucky to have been there while the summer break. Leuven was a safe and nice-sized city, especially for my mother, to walk around. We went on a day trip but always came back to Leuven for dinner. Our favourite restaurants are the Italian ZOff and the ethnic restaurant Kalypta. We also found a clothing store, Profiel, mainly dealing with Belgian high brands. We were having good days in Leuven until the final week of stay. It happened after…

Korea: Seoul & Chéri

Korea trip, we spent the later half in Seoul. My Korean friends took us to 북촌한옥마을Bukchon Hanok Maeul and 남산Namsan Seoul Tower.Historical Bukchon area had cute cafe shops in a renovated old house. What we were looking forward in Seoul was authentic Korean food! One of my friends took us to her favourite 삼겹살Samgyeopsal (pork belly) restaurant, still unknown to the tourists.Another friends took us to Hangang Park.It was interesting to have a food delivery to the park! Also, we joined in a Kimchi making class. The Korean couple holding a class were very chatty and friendly!Unfortunately it was raining outside, but we could enjoy half a day there. Korean food, including cheese…

Korea: Busan & Chéri

Korea was my third time but first time for my chéri to visit. This time we spent in Busan, Gyeongju and Seoul for 6 nights in total. In Busan, our Korean friend took us to the places such as해동 용궁사Haedong Yonggungsa (temple), 범어사Beomeosa (temple) and 감천문화마을Gamcheon Munhwa Ma-Eul (Gamcheon Culture Village). My impression of Busan is “colorful”.The temples are painted with green, yellow and red.For the coming Buddha’s birthday, there were many paper lanterns prepared when we visited.Gamcheon had so many tourists to see the colorful village and photogenic arts. During the tour, my chéri found a windmill hair accessory and decided to put it on each head for fun.Maybe this whose-windmill-turn-the-most…

Fukuoka: Brother & Chéri

Sakura blossom is one thing you cannot miss when you visit Japan in spring. We went on a trip from Fukuoka to Kyoto with my chéri’s brother to appreciate the spring beauty. It was still chilly but we could see a flurry of sakura in the wind at Ōhori Park. My chéri’s brother loves Japanese animation films, so he was thrilled to come visit Japan for the first time.It was also exciting for him to see my chéri in person after one year and half. Chéri’s brother: “Nē, otōto. Genki desu-ka? (Hey younger brother, how are you?)”Chéri: “Genki desu-yo. (I’m good.)” How adorable to see them speaking each other in Japanese! March…

Hokkaido: Shakotan & Chéri

Spring comes to Hokkaido very late.We finally had a nice and warm day in the end of April, so we decided to go on a driving date.We rent a car at Toyota Rent a Car and went to Shakotan where is located approximately the 1.5 – 3 hours west from Sapporo. The cape had very strong wind, more than we expected.I felt it as strong as it might push me from the cliff to the bottom.Although, it was nice to see the blue sea and the mountain covered with snow on top at the cape. On the way back to the parking lot, we took a walking promenade with full…
