Mon Chéri: Photos of Adventures + Short Stories

Mon Chéri: Photos of Adventures + Short Stories

Tokyo is where we met. We were new comers there: He just came from France, and I also just came from Osaka after coming back from the UK. We started to experience the cultural and historical things of Japan in Tokyo. And then, we started to visit the places further away from Tokyo, including outside of Japan. Where we were born, how we were raised, and the paths we had chosen. We have a lot of similarities but also many differences. That makes me discover something new when I travel with him, even to the places I know well. So as not to miss my findings, it is now my…

Fukuoka: Brother & Chéri

Fukuoka: Brother & Chéri

Sakura blossom is one thing you cannot miss when you visit Japan in spring. We went on a trip from Fukuoka to Kyoto with my chéri’s brother to appreciate the spring beauty. It was still chilly but we could see a flurry of sakura in the wind at Ōhori Park. My chéri’s brother loves Japanese animation films, so he was thrilled to come visit Japan for the first time. It was also exciting for him to see my chéri in person after one year and half. Chéri’s brother: “Nē, otōto. Genki desu-ka? (Hey younger brother, how are you?)” Chéri: “Genki desu-yo. (I’m good.)” How adorable to see them speaking each…

Hokkaido: Shakotan & Chéri

Hokkaido: Shakotan & Chéri

Spring comes to Hokkaido very late. We finally had a nice and warm day in the end of April, so we decided to go on a driving date. We rent a car at Toyota Rent a Car and went to Shakotan where is located approximately the 1.5 – 3 hours west from Sapporo. The cape had very strong wind, more than we expected. I felt it as strong as it might push me from the cliff to the bottom. Although, it was nice to see the blue sea and the mountain covered with snow on top at the cape. On the way back to the parking lot, we took a…

Big Island: Tropical Hawaii & Chéri

Big Island: Tropical Hawaii & Chéri

We went on the vacation with my family during the New Year’s holidays. This time we stayed in Hawaii island so-called “big Island”. Compared with Oahu island in where Honolulu is located, Hawaii island had more relaxing time. While driving from Kona to Hiro, we parked at the area where was covered by solidified lava. I felt the strength of nature when I found the new sprouts growing from the clacks of the ground. There were so many unexpected things happened: – My chéri forgot his driving license at home in Japan. – We got shocked by the unexpectedly cold ocean in winter Hawaii. – My brother had an awkward…

Tokushima: Scarecrows & Chéri

Tokushima: Scarecrows & Chéri

Parents of my chéri visited us from France to experience the autumn in Japan. We went on a road trip to Shikoku, the smallest island in Japan. On the way, we parked by the side of a road and picked chestnuts. Well, to be honest, I did not join them because I am not a big fan of insects. While they were looking for chestnuts, I was looking for something photogenic or someone since we hardly found a person. Then I found a lot of odd and smily scarecrows! We had no idea where we were, but it was Nagoro so-called “Kakashi-mura (scarecrow village)” where has more scarecrows than its…

Hokkaido: Summer & Chéri

Hokkaido: Summer & Chéri

Hokkaido in summer is very comfortable like in Europe, nice shiny not humid at all. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and the summer events such as Sapporo City Jazz. It was also a good timing to have our friend from Osaka and to give her a tour in Sapporo. The most place we appreciated the summer was at the camp in Muroran city. We encountered a school of dolphins that was rare after having a typhoon. And we also encountered a huge outbreak of winged ants at the camping site that only happens when there is a drastic change in temperature in summer. “I asked you so many times if…
