Kyoto: Fushimi Thousand Torii

Kyoto: Fushimi Thousand Torii

Fushimi Inari Shrine is friendly called as “O-inari-san” in Kansai region. It is one of my favourite in Kyoto, so I have been there so many times. I took my chéri to the shrine when he came to Kansai region for the first time, and we hiked all the way up to the top Ichi-no-mine. On that day, it was showery. Although, the vermillion colored torii gates looked more mysterious in the vibrant dark green moss. And it was also the day for Inari Festival. There were many men in happi coats who carry Mikoshi, a portable shrine. I felt the tradition and the history of shrine from the back…

Germany: Dresden At Dusk

Germany: Dresden At Dusk

For the winter break when I lived in the UK as a grad student, I planned to visit my old friend to Brno in Czech. Then I also planned a train trip in Germany by Deutche Bahn before going to Czech, since I always wanted to go to Berlin after reading Mori Ōgai’s “The Dancing Girl (Maihime in Japanese)”. On the way from Munich to Berlin, I stopped at Dresden. The old town at dusk was beautiful enough to forget the coldness of winter. I felt jealous at this old man walking in front of me, by imagining his life enjoying this gorgeous view every day. I found out later…

Hokkaido: Shakotan & Chéri

Hokkaido: Shakotan & Chéri

Spring comes to Hokkaido very late. We finally had a nice and warm day in the end of April, so we decided to go on a driving date. We rent a car at Toyota Rent a Car and went to Shakotan where is located approximately the 1.5 – 3 hours west from Sapporo. The cape had very strong wind, more than we expected. I felt it as strong as it might push me from the cliff to the bottom. Although, it was nice to see the blue sea and the mountain covered with snow on top at the cape. On the way back to the parking lot, we took a…

Mon Chéri: Photos of Adventures + Short Stories

Mon Chéri: Photos of Adventures + Short Stories

Tokyo is where we met. We were new comers there: He just came from France, and I also just came from Osaka after coming back from the UK. We started to experience the cultural and historical things of Japan in Tokyo. And then, we started to visit the places further away from Tokyo, including outside of Japan. Where we were born, how we were raised, and the paths we had chosen. We have a lot of similarities but also many differences. That makes me discover something new when I travel with him, even to the places I know well. So as not to miss my findings, it is now my…

Big Island: Tropical Hawaii & Chéri

Big Island: Tropical Hawaii & Chéri

We went on the vacation with my family during the New Year’s holidays. This time we stayed in Hawaii island so-called “big Island”. Compared with Oahu island in where Honolulu is located, Hawaii island had more relaxing time. While driving from Kona to Hiro, we parked at the area where was covered by solidified lava. I felt the strength of nature when I found the new sprouts growing from the clacks of the ground. There were so many unexpected things happened: – My chéri forgot his driving license at home in Japan. – We got shocked by the unexpectedly cold ocean in winter Hawaii. – My brother had an awkward…
